Genoa, in the middle of the 16th century, is the largest trading city in the Mediterranean. The many trading houses compete to be the richest and most profitable. But to be successful, they must sometimes cooperate. The players take the roles of traders in Genoa. They fulfill orders, deliver messages, and take ownership of important buildings in the city. Review
This is a negotiation game, which isn't going to suit every gaming group. The board depicts streets and buildings in the centre of Genoa. A player takes their turn by rolling the (eight sided) dice to determine a starting location on the 8 x 8 grid. The player can then take up to four more 'steps' to move from building to building. These steps are marked with a stack of discs. Each time player steps in a building (including on the initial roll), then the players negotiate for the right to take that building's action.
As a player is only allowed one action a turn, and if someone makes an offer for a building's action (which always happens, except in the endgame), then the controlling player (who rolled the dice) must either take the action himself, or accept an offer. After the negotiation (and actions), then the controller may make another step (if available) or end the turn and pass the dice. Once all players have had a shot at being controller, the turn marker is advanced. The game is played for a specified number of rounds.
Everything in this game is negotiable from the eight trade commodities, four types of cards, landlord rights for buildings, five special ability tokens, and cash, which means that their are plenty of ways to negotiate and the current controller has to weigh up all the deals offered and either choose one or take the action themselves.

As I said, negotiation games aren't for everyone, but if you like this kind of game, then this is one of the best available.
