Command & Colors Ancients allows you to re-fight epic battles of the ancient world. Here the focus is on the two rivals for power in the western Mediterranean - Carthage and Rome. Will you, as Hannibal, triumph over larger Roman armies; or as Scipio Africanus, will you beat Hannibal with newer tactics of your own?
Units in both armies can only move and fight when ordered. The command playing cards supply those orders, providing an element of luck that creates a fog of war and presents players with both challenges and opportunities. You must maximize your opportunities by playing your command cards judiciously. How well you handle the diverse units, their weapons, and the terrain, will determine victory.Contents:

|The place where Memoir 44 and Battlelore started out, this is a classic game and if you like the aformentioned games then you should do yourself a favour and take a look at this. If you have ever scratched you head and wondered what the rational was behind a card in battlelore, then it will make much more sense after having played this. The rules here are a little more complex than battlelore but do have a nice feeling of being a little better fitted to the theme perhaps. I believe the board in this game is an improvement on earlier editions where a paper board board was used which is a nice touch if it is and should prove more durable, although the terrain overlays are a little on the thin side compared to the really chunky tiles issued with Battlelore. The use of blocks is maybe less to my liking than the little miniatures of Battlelore and there is some work to do getting them stickered up before play. However miniatures really require painting and the blocks are pretty functional, so your opinions on these things may vary from mine, if you really need miniatures then there are plenty of manufacturers of ancients figures who could supply replacements I`m sure. Anyway this is a great game which hold its position well even against its later and somewhat prettier offspring and if you are looking for a light wargame with a historical theme then I cant recommend this enough.|

|An exciting cross between a block game and Memoir '44 set in the Ancient Period. Like that game (by the same author), this one will have expansions covering other nationalities and unit types (the next one will be Greece and the East).
Typically, play lasts for about an hour. The very well written rules are about as easy as a wargame gets - though a tad more involved than Memoir. That slight extra complexity adds a lot of depth and replayability. There are various scenarios - some historically unbalanced and some not. The artwork is pretty and the addition of leaders into the rules makes for interest. Above all, it's a lot of fun!
