1805 Austria and Russia had joined England's newest coalition against France. Prussia, emboldened by this mighty array of enemies, sent Napoleon its bellicose demands, threatening war if France did not recognize its claims to the Rhineland states. In the time it took this message to reach the Empereur of the French, however, his Grande Armee had crushed the Austrians in a lightning campaign around Ulm, and had occupied their capital. While the Purssian ambassador fumbled for the best way to smooth things over, once again Napoleon crushed the combined armies of Austria and Russia in the great battle of Austerlitz. The year ended with the Austrians suing for peace and the Russians limping back to Poland.

1806 Napoleon turned the tables and called the Prussian bluff with his own unreasonable demands. They responded with a declaration of war. Before this was even delivered, however, the French had crossed the Thuringer Wald and engaged the Prussian flank guards at Saalfeld. In just a matter of days the proud descendants of Frederick the Great were destroyed at the battles of Jena/Auerstaedt, Berlin fell, and just as the remnants of the Hohenzollern army now fled to Poland to embrace these same Moscovites.

1807 The Russians have abandoned Warsaw with the French in hot pursuit. Murat leads a triumphal entry into the ancient capital. Napoleon knows that he is 400 leagues from Paris and on the threshold of a hard, eastern European winter, but he must have the opposite bank of the Vistula River if the campaign to be launched in the Spring is to have its best chance of success. He orders Lannes to cross over...

Those who have made a study of valour and glory know whereof names such as Pultusk and Golymin speak. They know that in 1807 the Imperial Eagles stained with their own blood the snows of East Prussian around the village of Preussisch-Eylau, and that they soard their hightest on the banks of the Alle, above the town of Friedland. Comrade, as the Eagles turn, shall we not follow?

1807: The Eagles Turn East is a part of a series of games covering the campaigns of the French against the various Coalitins formed against them in the years 1792-1815. All these games use the same basic scale and game system. The rules are broken into "Standard" (used for the entire series) and "Special" (particular to this game) rulebooks. Anyone familiar with one game will have little difficulty playing another. A study folder is included to acquaint players with the less well known aspects of each campaign.

Over 400 playing pieces demonstrate the same graphic art for which Clash of Arms is now famous. Every major commander who participated in the campaign is individually rated according to the characteristics of his command functions. Combat units are deployed as brigades, divisions, or corps, and are differentiated between artillery, regular or light cavalry, and infantry.
