Basic game with 5 expansions!

In the third Carcassonne Big Box you will find the basic game and 5 popular expansions for this fun and award winning game.

We packed all this material together so fans can enjoy the game in many different ways which add even more fun to this great game. The expansions can be played together in any combination and are marked for easy sorting after the game. The box is designed to hold them all, each in its own place.

Apart from the basic game this box contains:

Inns & Cathedrals. The cathedral triples the value of a city, and the Inn doubles the value of a road but only when they are scored as completed features. At the end of the game, they reduce the value of an incomplete feature they are in to 0. Players may use the new large follower to double their chances of controlling a city, road, or field.

Traders & Builders. Traders can earn players extra points and builders enable player to place extra tiles, allowing the cities and roads to grow faster. A pig, properly placed, can enrich the value of a farm. Players can also collect wares for extra scoring at the end of the game.

* 6 wooden builders
* 6 wooden pigs

Princess & Dragon. The land around Carcassonne is being visited by a dragon, making life very difficult for the followers. Brave heroes venture forth to face the danger, but without the aid of the fairies, their chances are not good. In the city, the princess seeks help from the knights, and farmers build secret passages to move about undetected by the dragon.

Abbey & Mayor. Travelling merchants move their goods to surrounding cities and monasteries. The cities in the surrounding countryside can increase to a size large enough to elect their own mayors. Simple farmers build large and wealthy farms and the church tries to strengthen their influence by establishing abbeys.

Bridges, Castles & Bazaars. Travelling pedlars travel into the country in order to organize bazaars, where haggling as art is performed. At the same time, engineers with new bridges to build encourage road construction. Finally, small castles are built everywhere to secure the region.

Bought the game after some good advice from Phil. Never having played Carcassonne before, I went for the Big Box version to maintain a level of interest (and also because it is cheaper than buying the original plus expansions. Tile-laying game which cleverly combines an extremely quick to learn play system with tactical elements to give a product which can be played equally enjoyably by kids, non-gamers and regular gamers. We love it Big Box contains the original game, THE RIVER (which starts the game in a more interesting way than the normal starting tile), TRADERS AND BUILDERS (which increases the worth of farms and adds an "extra tile per turn" element), INNS AND CATHEDRALS (makes roads and cities worth more on completion, but adds an amount of risk if the road or City is not completed when the game finishes), PRINCESS AND DRAGON (random dragon attacks and great fun for the kids) and THE TOWER (which gives players the chance to remove other players pieces from the map). If you are new to Carcassonne and can afford £50, buy this - you will soon realise that the basic game requires add-ons to retain interest (even though it is still very good as a stand-alone). With kids aged 9 and 6 I find it very difficult to find games which are playable by them whilst not being boring for me - for this reason, Carcassonne is the best game I've bought for a very long time, it's excellent Stuart
