1888 - London Whitechapel district

The night covers the gloomy alleys with darkness and only a few corners are still illuminated by the gaslights.

Eight investigators have gathered to catch the cunning Jack the Ripper.

But Jack is in fact cleverly impersonating one of them.

In Mr. Jack, one of the players must help the investigators. By moving each character into light or shadow, the detective player makes successive deductions to uncover which investigator is in fact Jack, then he/she must try to catch the infamous ripper.

The opponent, player Jack, must do his best to delay the investigation. He can even try to use the darkness to secretly flee the district!

Review
One player plays Jack the Ripper the other plays the Inspector tasked with apprehending Jack. The players share 8 different characters (one of which is also Jack the Ripper), each with their own ability and the game lasts a maximum of 8 turns (if Jack is not unmasked by this time, he wins), although rarely goes the distance.

Each turn the players move 4 of the 8 charcaters and activate their abilities. 2 are moved by the Inspector and 2 by Jack. At the end of the turn, whoever playes Jack must declare whether he is in the light or in the shadow. This means that each round the inspector can hopefully eliminate the other suspects one by one until Jack is unmasked and captured. The mechanic of the game means that each round the inspector will attempt to leave the characters split 50/50 between light and shadow - thus elimating the most charcters as possible. Of course Jack will attempt exactly the opposite.

This game is my current favourite by some considerable distance. I'll play it anytime against anybody - just a pity it's not one of my wife's faves (probably because she doesn't win) otherwise it'd get played a heck of a lot more than it does!! Cannot recommend highly enough
