Thunderstone is a deck building game along the lines of Dominion, but plays quite differently. During setup sets of cards are randomly selected to form the village area, where players go to buy equipment and hire adventurers and the dungeon area, where you go to defeat monsters and gain victory points for the end game which occurs when the Thunderstone appears.

At the start of the game everyone begins with the same 12 cards which are shuffled and each player then deals six of these to form a hand of cards. As the game progresses each players deck of cards will become very varied depending on what they buy and what they fight. The challenge of the game is balancing dungeon delving, with village purchases on your way to winning the game.

Thunderstone is easy to learn and although the box says 2-5 players, it can be played solo with rules available on-line, which is an excellent way to learn how to play and is a great addition to your collection if you enjoy the deck building style of games, like Dominion and Ascension, for example.
