Since time immemorial, the Lazax rules over the galaxy and its many races. Then, borne by economic stagnation and growing distrust, the foundations of their empire began to crack. Like a lethal disease, abdication and strife slowly spread, heralding the dark times that would follow.

While storm clouds of discontent gathered, blinded by past glory and complacent from millennia of supremacy, the Lazax failed to heed the increasingly desperate state of affairs.

Then, without warning, an insidious blow was struck at the very heart of the empire. A Sol fleet, enabled by Jol-Nar technology and support of the Hacan trading groups, launched a surprise attack on the throne world of the Lazax emperor, Mecatol Rex.

Within hours, the emperor had been killed and his empire plunged into chaos. As the galaxy descended into civil war, the contention for power on Mecatol Rex became a microcosm of the betrayal, desperate diplomacy, and destruction that was soon to engulf the stars.

The Rex board game retells the epic struggle for Mecatol Rex after the death of the last Lazax emperor. In Rex, 3-6 players each take the role of a powerful galactic race with unique special powers and starting positions. Throughout the game, players strive to outmaneuver their opponents in order to control the most important districts of Mecatol Rex. To succeed, players must use clever negotiation and tactical planning while unstable alliances are formed, armies are mustered, and traitors unmasked.

As one empire is shattered, another will rise in its place. Will you claim dominance, or will you submit to the might of others?

Whether you choose the path of negotiation or all-out war, the fate of Mecatol Rex, and perhaps that of the galaxy, lies in your hands.

The game mechanics of Rex are based on the original system first published in 1982 by the Avalon Hill Game Company in the classic board game Dune, designed by Bill Eberle, Jack Kittredge, and Peter Olotka ( of Cosmic Encounter fame).
