It takes speed, wits, & dirty tricks to become a racing legend!
The robots of the ROBO RALLY automobile factory spend their weekdays toiling at the assembly line. They put in hard hours building high-speed supercars they never get to see in action. But on Saturday nights, the factory becomes a world of mad machines and dangerous schemes as these robots engage in their own epic race.
As soon as the factory closes for the weekend, the robots turn it into a frantic race course. They turn up the conveyor belts to high speed, open the floor pits, and remove all safety guards from the welding lasers.
The greatest joy for these robots is to be the victor in this fantastic race.
|A family member bought me this for Christmas 2014 and we managed to get a game in over Christmas. Unfortunately we were all new to the game and we played with 5 people, so it was quite a stop-start affair, checking the rule book and getting very confused over movement and order of things etc! However once we had learned the game better, consulting some online resources etc to assist us, we have since really enjoyed playing this classic game. I think it plays best with 4 probably, and you have to be canny about which board/setup you choose, but this game can be excellent fun as others have said already. It is the only 'programmable movement' game that I have but I have to say I quite like the mechanic, and see no reason why I shouldn't add others to my collection! It focuses your strategy and keeps you guessing whilst trying to do the best moves with your cards. I really like the damage mechanic which limits your movement as you become more damaged. The game can be quite humorous as well, as players can get messed up by the board, by their movement, or by the other robots! If you are looking for something a bit different to bring out at a gaming evening for a bit of fun but also with some fairly deep/clever mechanics then this is well worth a look.|

Easily our favourite game at current! Seems to appeal well to all ages and is very easy to pick up but, when using the more advance maps, difficult to master! The game works well and the interactive board elements coupled with varying movement speed makes for a tense chaotic game at times!
Since the start of 2010 I have managed to introduce 12 people to this game, and 5 of them instantly chose to go out and buy it themselves. The game has been around for ages and im sure will be for time to come but thats no an excuse to wait! There is very few ways to get so much fun for £29.99 Go and buy it now!!!!! :D

This game has been around for ages but did go out of print a while back then Avalon Hill reprinted it with a makeover and after another little hiccup is now available again.
This review is based on the 2nd Edition version not the Current Avalan Hill one.
The game comes with several Boards, metal robot figures and lots of cards and carboard tokens. The game is very well designed and looks stunning, especially if you take the time to paint the metal figures.
The robots of the factory are bored and have devised a race across the factory floor to help pass the time. The players take on the role of one of these robots and use a hand of program cards to select 5 instructions to their robot each turn to guide it around the board(s) to touch a series of flags in order. There are obstacles on the board, conveyor belts, cogs, pits etc. There is too much to describe and this game is soooo addictive it ought to come with a health warning. This was the first proper boardgame I ever bought and I have never looked backed, it is just FUN there is infinite variety with the various boards, you can enhance your robot with option cards during the game. The original game had various expansions that added new boards, obstacles and enhancements, sadly the reprint is only of the main game thought they have added in some nice new extras.
There are flaws in the game mechanics that can lead to a getaway leader but with house rules and experience these can be lessened or make no odds. I will always be willing to play a game of this and with a little Internet searching there are loads of homebrew gameplay variants, boards, enhancements that can add to what is already a wonderful game. If you get a chance to grab a copy then go for it.
Highly recommended game for all the family.

|I'm not going to let the fact that I'm rubbish at this, stop me from enjoying it! I thought it was a lot of fun and very replayable. It's quite a bit of a brain-burner when you get near the fast conveyors and twizzlers and if you enjoy visio-spatial awareness challenges then this may be right dwon your alley...or is that Rally.|

|First the original game from Wizards of the Coast:
The game is straightforward itself. Each player is dealt nine program cards, from which they select 5 of them to program their robot for this turn. Then, once all players have laid out their cards, all the first cards are turned over. The cards depict left or right turn, forward 1,2 or 3 spaces, back-up and u-turn. Each card also has a unique 'speed' rating, which determines the order that each card will be played and therefore the order that the robots will move. As the robots can, and do interact with each other, this move order can be important.
Once the robots have moved, the various factory elements activate in a specific order, which can also affect the robots. Conveyor belts will move the robots along if they are stood on them, gears will turn them, lasers shoot them, pushers push them, etc. It's dangerous out there! The robots all start from the same place and head off across the factory floor racing to each flag, which are placed where players wish at the start of the game. Be warned though, playing with eight players to all six flags provided will be a long game. The fun of the game comes from the interaction of the robots. No matter how well you plan, something is bound to happen to upset those plans. You will see players twisting and turning as they try to plan out the best route with the cards they have been dealt 'the robot dance'.
This new version does seem to have some differences:

"Obviously, the big deal is the eight new game boards. We were careful to make certain that they were backwards compatible with the older boards so that players could mix and match. Other changes are all focused on making it easier for players to easily see their status and next steps. There are factory floor guides similar to what was in the original and 4 player reference cards. I think the biggest improvement, though, are the track guides. There are multiple suggested set ups included within this version so that gamers can focus on their strategy rather that board design. We’ve found that sometimes, especially when you are fairly new to the game, that without some guidance the tracks that people designed weren’t necessarily the most fun. That doesn’t mean that experienced players can’t design and program new play patterns; we just thought that we would start you out with some of our favorites."
So existing owners could buy this and add it into their existing game!
