The object of Scoville is for player’s to plant different coloured peppers, and then harvest in reverse order. After that you can sell your peppers at the market, or use them to try to win the chili cook-off. You can save them to plant next round and try to get the hottest peppers first. There is bidding at the start of each round to see who goes first, but sometimes you will bid to pick last place so that you can harvest first or block someone else (Yes this game can be mean and there can be some nastiness between your fellow players).
So far we have only played as a 2 player, it was nice to see that the game scaled for 2 players and didn't require some weird tricks to work. The rules are fairly easy to teach, and there are cheat sheets for each player so that they know what they are doing and can plan ahead.
The game comes with little wooden farmers, and pepper shaped tokens to plant in the field. All of the parts in the game are good quality. I’m not sure what I initially expected when we brought the game what I do know is that I wasn’t looking forward to playing it, it was definitely a game the “other” half wanted. Boy, was I in for a surprise, I really like it so much so we played it twice straight after each other. It’s light enough that you can get a few games of it in on the same day, but has enough strategy in it to be interesting to most “gamers”. Very interesting game and well worth a look.
