This is a great game which effectively lets you lie to your friends faces!! If you are into bluffing games then this is the game for you. Fundamentally you are a trader and you are trying to bring goods into Nottingham to sell at the market but the nasty Sheriff of Nottingham (the role moves round all the players) is trying to stop contraband from coming in. There are a number of different types of goods, chicken, bread, cheese and then you have your contraband goods such as spices, weapons and materials. Each good has a value worth gold at the end of the game, as well as a bonus for the players with the most of each. Then there is contraband, goods worth more gold at the end but not legal in Nottingham. Players declare goods and can offer the Sheriff a bribe, or maybe offer some of the goods inside for the Sheriff to not inspect your bag, or if you’re really nasty like me offer money for the Sheriff to inspect someone else’s bag! If the Sheriff inspects your bag and you lied, then you have to pay a penalty price for each good that you lied about. If the Sheriff gets it wrong and you were honest then the Sheriff has to pay you the penalty price instead. This is where the fun lies. Sometimes it's great to sell a lie when you're telling the truth to take gold in penalties from the Sheriff. The game ends when everyone has been Sheriff twice where gold held in your purse is added to the value of goods and contraband successfully brought into the city, then bonuses are added. The winner is the person with the most gold. This really is a fun game as you really can't tell when someone is lying or telling the truth, or even lying about lying. The game works best when people get into the role play of the Sheriff or merchants as it adds to the game. A great party game that only takes around 30-45 minutes to play highly recommended with the right people.
