Fort Sumter is a two-player game portraying the secession crisis of 1860 leading to the bombardment of Fort Sumter and the start of the American Civil War. Fort Sumter pits a Unionist versus a Secessionist player in a 20-40 minute game using a small footprint 20"x14" mounted map.
The heart of Fort Sumter is Mark Herman's Card Driven Game (CDG) system. It uses Strategy cards for their historic events to control the crisis through political capital. With a new Final Crisis mechanic, players accelerate the action by breaching crisis zones (escalation, tension, and final crisis). Beware, aggressive play can gain political advantage, but it can also activate moderates who will attempt to thwart your zeal.
Card play allows you to acquire Political Capital tokens used to compete for control over the crisis' four dimensions. The likes of William Lloyd Garrison, Sam Houston, Jefferson Davis, and Abraham Lincoln also walk on stage as the Southern states dissolve the Union.
Fort Sumter puts you in the halls of the crisis that almost destroyed the United States of America. Can you repeat Lincoln's genius to win the crisis and galvanise the Union for war? Or will you, as Davis, fire on Fort Sumter, thereby winning the advantage of the war's first move? Play Fort Sumter to find out!
