15th century princes from the Loire Valley devote their efforts to strategic trading and building in order to bring their estates prosperity and prominence throughout Burgundy.

|Another hugely successful game from Stefan Feld. The theme of developing a small princedom fits where it touches which is mainly in the attractive artwork on the tiles that represent the buildings in each country. Each player has their own player-mat which contains their kingdom, a geometric area of hexagons with differing dice numbers in each hex. There is also a central board on which most of the goods, building tiles, bonus tiles etc are displayed. Once side of each mat is identical to allow parity of play recommended when first learning the game, while the other side is different for each player to introduce greater diversity of play when you are more experienced. As with Trajan, a major factor in the pleasure of this game is the multiplicity of choices, stemming from a simple mechanic. In the case of Trajan it was the mancala-like rondel on each player-mat. Here it is the simple process of the simultaneous rolling of two dice by each player at the beginning of a turn. With those two dice, you then have a choose mainly whether to take an item from the central board to place in your reserve or whether to move an item from your reserve on to your kingdom. That sounds wonderfully simple, but the possible combination of choices and the interaction of how laying one tile can promote another action makes for an infintely more complex game. One word of warning- this is not a game to be played with those who suffer from analysis parallesis. However, it is an immensely enjoyable game - just don't dither!|
